Title:
Solution to the GM debate - The Third Way
Full comment:

From: Natural Law Party Wessex (Dorset, Hamsphire and Isle of Wight) =============================================

A report by scientists at the UK's National Institute for Agricultural Botany has confirmed that it will be virtually impossible to maintain the complete purity of non-gm crops if GM commercialisation takes place (the report was carried out for the European Environment Agency - www.connectotel.com/gmfood/in240302.txt ).

Below are some useful reference pages for anyone interested in looking at the lack of a proper scientific basis for the development of GM crops and food, as well as other issues.

The last item, "The Acceptable Face Of Ag-biotech", is especially important. It offers a solution to the current debate (a 'third way') where everyone's needs can be met - consumers, farmers, scientists, industry, and government.

This is an approach that is acceptable to a broad spectrum of society including the organic sector (see Soil Association Policy Paper - www.biotech-info.net/marker_assisted_breeding.html ), but still remains one largely overlooked by policy makers.

A great deal of information is provided in the items below. The second in particular covers much more than just the science, and although lengthy, should be of interest to scientific and non-scientific readers alike (it is best printed off due to its length).
